ISSUES
DEVELOPMENT
Cabarrus County is one of the fastest growing counties in North Carolina becaus e it has great schools, low crime, and low taxes.
Unprecedented growth without strategic planning threatens to weaken the things that make Cabarrus a great place to grow and raise a family. Ian's unique skillset as an Architect and Councilman will allow him to effect meaningful change in Cabarrus County.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Water, sewer, and traffic are major issues for Cabarrus County. Infrastructure has not kept pace with development. There's a shortage of sewer capacity county-wide and there is a lack of communication with leaders in the largest municipalities on how to handle the growth. Ian's experience as a Councilman, architect, and business leader gives him the insights and skills to put us on the right track to keep Cabarrus a great place to raise and grow a family, business, or church.
TAXES & BUDGET
Cabarrus County is facing an estimated budget shortfall of $13.7 million dollars. Government spending and taxation is out of control and Cabarrus County needs a leader who knows how to find efficiencies and empower staff to provide services to residents while eliminating unnecessary spending.
RESOURCES
Cabarrus County has incredible natural resources, tree canopy, and open farmland. These resources should be protected and not turned into massive developments with no planning. Studies show that quality of life improves with access to the natural environment - something rural folks know all too well. We must protect our resources and avoid unabated development. Ian reduced residential approvals in Harrisburg 96% and re-wrote the UDO to protect the rural areas. He will do the same countywide.
SCHOOLS
Cabarrus County is required under the NC Constitution to fund schools. With two children in Cabarrus County Schools, Ian understands that education is of the utmost importance to the future of Cabarrus County. With unprecedented growth, the schools are experiencing record enrollment and overcrowded schools. Ian brings unparalleled experience in the architecture and construction industry to reduce costs, improve long term planning, and reduce waste.
